I am moved by the things around me: the pattern of crumbs on a plate, the weight of the knife balanced on the edge, the visual cacophony of what sits on my refrigerator shelves. I wonder at the array of objects we choose to have, whether we place them on our mantels for display or put them out of sight behind cupboard and closet doors. These are the subjects of my paintings. Taking inspiration from the Dutch still life tradition, I emphasize the object's physical presence by heightening color, paying careful attention to detail and accenting the inhabited space. By revealing the whimsical beauty of these often overlooked objects, I uncover the sense of those things with which we choose to surround ourselves.
